1. T20I: USA vs Bangladesh
The USA national cricket team stunned a full-strength Bangladesh side in Houston to create history in their inaugural Twenty20 International (T20I). With their dominant performance and big win margin, USA gave an early warning ahead of June’s T20 World Cup tournament.
While scoring only 153 runs in their innings, the Americans were well on their way to reaching their target with just over two overs remaining thanks to some stellar batsmanship from Steven Taylor and Monank Patel who formed a 44-run partnership in 39 balls which helped get things off to an early start.
But USA bowlers managed to stay composed and prevent Bangladesh from staging any kind of comeback attempt, keeping their batters under tight control throughout their innings.
The United States won the toss and decided to field first, giving Bangladeshi openers Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah good starts before both were caught or run out – with Mahmudullah becoming part of an embarrassing mix-up between him and Towhid Hridoy at their respective ends, leading to their dismissals.
After an initially slow start, American batsmen eventually got into their groove in the second half of their innings – yet were still vulnerable at one stage; scoring just 68-4 at that time.
But Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh led an effective comeback for the hosts. Singh hit three sixes and two fours during an incredible 67-run unbroken partnership between himself and Anderson.
With one over remaining against Bangladesh in their T20I, USA were poised to secure their maiden win against Tigers – only for them to falter by five runs during final over.
Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain all played pivotal roles in keeping Bangladesh at bay with some exemplary bowling from Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain, leading them to win by 5 wickets and take an early 1-0 advantage in this series. The match took place at Grand Prairie Stadium – an indoor multi-purpose arena in Houston Texas which previously housed Texas AirHogs baseball from 2008 until 2019.
2. T20I: USA vs Bangladesh
USA cricket team produced an astounding performance to secure an historic win against full-strength Bangladesh in their second T20I at Prairie View Cricket Complex, Houston. By winning this historic win and levelling up their series 2-1 against Bangladesh, they sent out a wakeup call before co-hosting World Cup 2018 alongside West Indies this June. Monank Patel led USA scoring with 42 off 38 balls while Aaron Jones and Steven Taylor each contributed 35 runs each for USA batting unit; Ali Khan took two LBW wickets quickly in quick succession as Bangladesh went from being 68/4 (11.2 overs) to all-out in 19.3 overs! Ali Khan then took his double wicket to completely dismantle their top order batting unit; Monank Patel top scored with 42 off 38 balls before losing his double to USA’s bowling unit allowing Monank Patel scored from 38 balls until LBW twice before bowler Ali Khan took his double in 17th over!
Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah tried to push up the run rate towards eight an over, but spinner Corey Anderson kept things tight – his economy rate of 0/27 over three overs was essential for keeping their opponents within touching distance of victory. Harmeet Singh gained momentum back for USA with two sixes off Mustafizur.
USA made an early statement, scoring an unbroken innings of 153/6 in 20 overs, led by an unbeaten partnership between Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh that yielded 95 runs; Anderson hit seven fours and two sixes during his unbeaten 57 off 45 balls; other lower order batsmen such as Josh Anderson supported this innings as they each hit multiple fours and sixes during their 27-ball innings; this allowed USA to seize control.
On Saturday, the USA will go into their third and final match against Canada with an unassailable lead 1-0, playing at Grand Prairie Stadium. The venue had originally been scheduled for their T20 World Cup opener between US and Canada on June 2, but due to tornadoes hitting Texas that fixture has been postponed. Instead, Corey Anderson (US) and Harmeet Singh (USA) will lead their respective batting lineups for USA during Wednesday’s second game held there; these two are leading their respective batting lineups for USA.
3. T20I: USA vs Bangladesh
On Thursday at Prairie View Cricket Complex in Dallas, USA beat Bangladesh in an exciting second T20I by six runs to take a commanding 1-0 lead in their three-match series and record their maiden triumph against an ICC full member nation.
Bangladesh managed to recover after losing opener Liton Das in an embarrassing run-out mix-up and Towhid Hridoy was dismissed in the next over by making an impressive comeback to reach 153/6 at the end of 20 overs, even after Towhid Hridoy was dismissed soon afterwards; Hridoy hit an outstanding 47-ball 58 to support Mahmudullah’s 31-ball contribution; however USA bowlers kept them at bay; Ali Khan took three wickets including Najmul Hossain Shanto’s catch at midwicket before having Jaker Ali outright before Harmeet Singh provided four overs at economical rate while Steven Taylor and Corey Anderson took two wickets each to limit damage.
USA made an effective start in their chase of 154 with Monank Patel and Steven Taylor sharing an opening 54-run partnership before Monank was run out at non striker’s end. Soon afterwards Corey Anderson made a quick 45 off 34 balls to join Steven in making their total and then Shadley van Schalkwyk hit 33 off 23 balls to join this formidable pair in supporting them further.
However, their chase fizzled out when neither Corey Anderson or Harmeet could gain any momentum and were eventually dismissed by Rahman’s spinners, with Anderson falling victim to an unusually slow delivery and Harmeet being trapped lbw by Rahman for a duck.
Bangladesh’s bowlers had initially looked set to put their opponents on the back foot early with an impressive opening spell from Mustafizur Rahman and Jasdeep Singh, before Taylor took out Jasdeep for an easy catch at short third man and Rahman bowled all his overs – effectively destabilising USA innings momentum until Corey and Harmeet produced some late hope with their crucial partnership of 37 runs which gave their side hope of an unlikely comeback.
4. T20I: USA vs Bangladesh
After dominating in their opening T20I against Bangladesh, USA continued their dominance by outclassing their opponent to take an impressive 2-0 advantage in Houston ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup tournament. USA’s victory serves as a powerful wake-up call for Bangladesh who could falter at key moments during this tournament.
The home side was given a boost by an excellent start from their top order, led by Monank Patel’s 42 off 38 deliveries and Aaron Jones’ 35. Additionally, Corey Anderson and Shadley van Schalkwyk all made vital contributions towards USA total on what proved a slow track in Texas.
Visitors were slow to respond as they struggled to find boundaries on a tricky surface at Prairie View Cricket Complex, until fast bowler Ali Khan intervened in the 18th over. Ali dragged one onto Najmul Hossain Shanto’s stumps before having Tanzim Hasan Sakib caught at short third man. Bangladesh quickly collapsed thereafter to 138 all out within six overs.
USA’s victory marked a historic achievement: they recorded their maiden T20I series win against an ICC Full Member Team since Ireland stunned them to register their maiden win.
Bangladesh arrived in Texas as one of the clear favorites, boasting such talent as Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman in its lineup. However, vice-captain Taskin Ahmed suffered an injury before their trip and has been replaced by right-arm speedster Hasan Mahmud as the vice captain of their side.
Both teams will now meet again for the final T20I of this series on Saturday at the same location, with the USA hoping to build off of their impressive showing and take a 2-1 lead into this decisive clash as they prepare for a massive T20 World Cup tournament coming up later in June.
