United States men are gearing up for their T20 World Cup appearance beginning Feb. 7, in India and Sri Lanka, led by captain Monank Patel.

Jones played an instrumental role in USA’s 2024 T20 World Cup upset win against Pakistan, scoring an unbeaten super over winning run and leading them into the Super Eight round of tournament. Now back for another round, he will lead USA once more at this year’s tournament.

Batsmen

The USA made their inaugural appearance at the 2024 T20 World Cup and made headlines around the globe by beating Pakistan in a Super Over. Now, they are set to return and hope to build on their performance from previous editions of this tournament.

The team has experienced difficulties, but with a new board in charge of US cricket things are looking up. Major League Cricket has expanded the game across America while boasting top batsmen.

Jordan Jones is one of the USA roster’s standout batsmen, having scored 94 runs against Pakistan during their World Cup victory and contributing heavily in an upset win against Canada at the first match of the tournament. Jones remains an integral member of their T20 World Cup team despite currently being suspended by ICC due to violating their anti-corruption code five times and will miss this year’s event; he may return for 2026 World Cup hosted in India and Sri Lanka though.

Bowlers

The United States cricket team will look to build on its breakthrough World Cup appearance in 2024, when it upset Pakistan in their opening match and advanced to the Super 8s round. Now in their second ICC T20 World Cup tournament this year and playing alongside India and Pakistan.

USA Cricket have been playing international cricket since 1844, yet only in 1979 became Associate members of the International Cricket Council for their ICC Trophy tournament. After qualifying for Champions Trophy 2004, though, that tournament exposed just how vast is the gap between Associates and Full Members.

In 2017, USA won their inaugural T20 International match against Cayman Islands and in 2021 shocked Ireland to win their first home series against a Full Member country – both milestones being part of an incredible run which culminated in 2024 T20 World Cup which they co-hosted by winning two matches and even surprising Pakistan with an unexpected Super Over victory!

USA will have eight bowlers to select from when selecting their squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, all of whom could become key contributors. One such bowler, Netravalkar, played a vital role in their shock win against Pakistan last season and won player of the match honours; 32-year-old left-armer has an extensive Indian domestic cricket background as well as being remarkable this season for Team USA.

All-Rounders

All-rounders play a pivotal role in any cricket team. Their versatility means they can both bat and bowl effectively – something the USA team boasts some amazing all-rounders for. When crucial moments in a match arise, these all-rounders may come into their own by scoring runs or taking wickets that determine victory for one side or another. The USA cricket squad boasts several talented all-rounders.

The United States Cricket team is gearing up for its second World Cup appearance. The 2026 edition begins Feb. 7 in India and Sri Lanka after USA stunned cricket world in 2024, beating Pakistan to qualify for Super Eight round.

USA cricket dates back to 1844 when its inaugural match took place against Canada. Since then, cricket has continued to thrive within the US, qualifying for ICC Champions Trophy by 2004 but struggling with governance issues, and eventually being suspended by ICC in 2017. USACA eventually became part of USA Cricket as its governing body until being suspended by them in 2017.

After taking over in 2021, the USA Cricket board quickly won promotion to Division Two of the World Cricket League within a year. Furthermore, they made history by defeating Singapore in Division Three’s final to reach the main tournament; and have gone on to win several T20Is, including their inaugural home series against Full Members Ireland that same year.

Captain and Key Players

Cricket has long been popular in the United States, but has only recently gained international status on mainland. Not until 2021 did the USA play their inaugural international match against a Full Member team when they defeated Ireland at Florida Stadium.

Since then, the USA have shown steady progress, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup by defeating Canada and Pakistan. They hope to build on that performance and produce even greater results at their next edition of this tournament.

Jonathan Taylor leads the USA cricket team as its captain and was part of a side that caused one of the greatest T20 upsets ever against Pakistan during the 2024 World Cup, scoring 36 runs off 26 balls before bowling the super over to help win for his side.

Ajmal Netravalkar will be one of the key US players looking to impress in 2026 tournament. Since 2019 when joining USA team, the left-arm pacer has taken 40 wickets in 41 matches for them and contributed greatly during 2024 World Cup upset victory against Pakistan, taking two wickets while conceding just 18 runs! He played a pivotal role when leading them past India and Sri Lanka at 2024 tournament – and will surely do his best when facing off against these countries again later.
