After suffering an unexpected loss against Pune Warriors, Mumbai Indians will look to rebound against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium. Rajasthan won their last encounter against MI.
Piyush Chawla takes over for RR and begins by bowling a dot to Jaiswal who smashes it over deep square for six.
In this article, we will discuss the main players or main points of Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals Match Scorecard.
Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma has been MI’s shining light so far after Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir were dismissed early. His unbeaten 65-ball innings has produced three sixes and five fours while giving them hope against an experienced Rajasthan bowling lineup led by Trent Boult and Nandre Burger.
Tilak was in full flight when he struck out and drove the backfoot towards the fine leg fence for a boundary, reaching fifty in no time! Once at fifty he immediately hit single and got there in no time!
Hetmyer steps into the attack in search of an early victory, trying to set his team off on the right foot. Full and on middle, he attempts a wild pull but completely misses it; instead it lands safely in his hands at short third man and Hetmyer makes a smart catch that ends Tilak’s fifty with an appearance to remember at Wankhede – their crowd having taken to him and given them something worth cheering about through his bat.
Hardik Pandya
Prior to Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals clashing this IPL derby, we take a look at key players who will feature. Jos Buttler leads with 602 runs from 21 innings scored while MI’s Suryakumar Yadav ranks second with 414 runs scored from nine appearances.
Hardik Pandya will come under scrutiny again after an underwhelming start as MI captain. A section of Wankhede crowd booed him in their opening game against Gujarat and has criticised his selection in bowling department.
MI is boasting an impressive top order featuring Rohit Sharma, Dewald Brevis and Ishan Kishan; however their batsmen have struggled in the PowerPlay. Trent Boult and Nandre Burger have taken full advantage of MI’s weakness to attack through MI’s line-up and put immense pressure on its new skipper.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag have both made notable contributions in RR’s middle order, showing signs that both have the talent needed to break into national side squads. Other key performers for RR include Mohammad Nabi and Avesh Khan who all demonstrate why this team should be taken seriously as contenders.
Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan has an infectious smile as he walks off the ground after an amazing innings. The youngster says that all he wanted was to play his natural game while keeping an eye on every ball as he watched closely for possible signs. Being confident from day one definitely helped as did having trust from seniors who believed in and supported him throughout.
RR’s batsmen have caused havoc to MI’s batting line-up. Trent Boult and Nandre Burger are two key contributors, with the latter providing consistent lines and lengths support to Trent. Together, these two have reduced MI to an unsatisfactory total of 125/9 at Wankhede, leaving the hosts vulnerable.
With their latest victory, the defending champions have taken another step closer to reaching the playoffs. Now with 14 points from eight games – meaning two victories away from qualifying for a top four finish. Meanwhile Mumbai are currently sixth in the table and still need to win their remaining two matches to advance further.
Suryakumar Yadav
Rajasthan Royals have made an outstanding start to their 2018-19 IPL campaign, winning back-to-back matches and sitting atop of their table with four victories from five matches so far. Sanju Samson led his side brilliantly and was very pleased with their overall performance; all members worked well together towards creating such a magnificent win – also appreciating left-handers who took on spinners in middle overs!
Jos Buttler and Rohit Sharma of Rajasthan Royals opened their innings with an excellent start, flicking Trent Boult over deep fine leg for a maximum over deep fine leg to collect a double, then pushing him towards midwicket for another single – both being impressive shots which gave their partnership 53 runs off just 27 balls!
Suryakumar Yadav came in at number three and hit an eye-catching century to propel Mumbai Indians to an incredible 181 for eight on a difficult Wankhede Stadium pitch. He hit 11 boundaries and six sixes during his innings to help MI reach their impressive total.
Piyush Chawla enters to bowl his opening over and allows only five runs without conceding a boundary, as Buttler struggles to find any gaps in his batting. Chawla then bowls a short one that Buttler attempts to pull but ends up hitting for six!
Mohammad Nabi
Mohammad Nabi is an Afghanistan all-rounder who has excelled at both bat and ball for his nation. He has amassed more than 200 runs in one day internationals while taking wickets at both T20 and BBL events. Additionally, Mohammad has represented several leagues such as Bangladesh Premier League Quetta Gladiators Comilla Victorians of Pakistan Super League.
He boasts both an excellent strike rate and average. Yet he doesn’t bowl with aggression, rather his average pace of around mid-80s allows him to keep batsmen guessing with dots; also building pressure with dots forcing batters to defend more balls as time progresses – he bowled 171 dot balls during this tournament; more than any spinner.
Mumbai Indians are in trouble now, but with Tim David and Tilak Varma at the crease they still have a shot at posting a respectable total. Unfortunately for them however Ashwin and Chahal have managed to stop any progress towards that end; Hetmyer attempted to guide one into the covers, but Avesh Khan took an amazing catch at backward point that saw Hetmyer fall five wickets down with more than eight overs left to play – this match will determine first place in their league and it is imperative for Mumbai that they win this match or risk dropping to bottom spot which would ensure top spot will secure top position; losing will mean bottom spot and they risk falling further behind their league competition counterparts compared with those that win it will secure first spot compared with those who lose this game would result in dropping to bottom place or being eliminated from contention and that is why this game will decide first place or fall further behind as result of losses suffered in this matchup will result in them falling further behind!
Avesh Khan
Riyan Parag and Avesh Khan came to their team’s aid with some excellent bowling performances to contain run-flow and pick up key wickets to give Rajasthan hope of making a comeback.
Jaiswal attempts to pull but gets an edge and hits it over the keeper’s head for six. Two singles follow as Jaiswal continues his aggressive approach. Chahal returns for his second over and begins by bowling two dot balls before Wadhera drives the ball towards mid on for four and another single is scored before Chahal concludes his over.
Hetmyer then takes an aggressive stance towards Hetmyer’s spinner but his attempt at hitting over the covers was foiled by an outstanding catch at backward point by Hetmyer himself – another outstanding performance from Windies player Hetmyer.
