This game, the second ODI, will showcase talented spinners from both teams as both are equipped with players capable of bowling slow yet skilful deliveries. Both sides stand a good chance of victory; however, Bangladesh must improve their batting performances for any chance at victory at home.
Bangladesh can still present New Zealand with plenty of challenges despite missing several first-choice players, particularly its batsmen who can cause problems for its defence. Furthermore, pacer Shoriful Islam may prove dangerous as well.
Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto had difficulty against New Zealand’s bowlers, although Najmul Hossain Shanto managed to score an unbeaten century before being dismissed by Trent Boult. Meanwhile, Shanto had an outstanding debut ODI performance as captain – something he will look to replicate again here.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will lead his side into this match against Bangladesh, hoping to break their 13-year losing streak against them in one-day internationals (ODIs). But their effort may prove too strong as Bangladesh bowlers provide tough opposition.

New Zealand is in prime position to reach their target, having only two overs remaining to do so.
Shakib Al Hasan will be key for Bangladesh in this game, needing to increase his batting performance after scoring only one fifty in his previous five innings. Mahmudullah will provide support as this marks Mahmudullah’s maiden ODI appearance for Bangladesh. Likewise, New Zealand needs their batsmen like Lockie Ferguson and Trent Boult to step up and derail Bangladesh batting efforts by picking up more wickets against them.

Bangladesh batsmen struggled against the new ball as they lost four wickets for 35 runs in an initial over against a tough Kiwi side at Eden Park on September 27. To salvage this match, their batting line-up remains strong. If they wish to recover in future overs, Bangladesh players must improve their batting in subsequent overs if they want any chance at success in run chase. Put pressure on New Zealand batsmen by restricting scoring freely; otherwise they risk cruiseing to a comfortable victory against an opponent like Bangladesh in three-match ODI series starting off at Eden Park on September 27 before flying directly to Christchurch for match two on September 28.
