DC also made some adjustments with James Hopes taking Sherfane Rutherford’s spot while Angrish Raghuvanshi replaced Chris Jordan on their side.
Both teams were eager to win this matchup as both were coming off two consecutive defeats before this encounter. Mumbai Indians looked poised for an impressive total, but KKR bowlers managed to restrain them well and restrict runs throughout their innings; as such, visitors struggled for runs throughout their innings and ended with a below-par total of 165/7 in 20 overs.
KKR began the match strongly as their openers managed to build an impressive total and accumulate runs quickly. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), looking for their third championship this IPL season, are hoping to break their losing streak against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by winning the toss for once this year and opting to bowl. Harshit Rana could make his IPL debut alongside Rinku Singh as they look to close out a top four finish this time round.
Shreyas Iyer of KKR believes the wicket will contain some dew, making the ball skippier than usual and promising an exciting high-scoring contest. Additionally, he said they intend to utilize their boundaries as much as possible in their favor.
Iyer recognizes RCB is the superior team, yet they must play well to win their match. He noted this will provide an opportunity to return to winning ways and also that their goal is to qualify for playoffs.
Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians acknowledged their defeat with respect to Rajasthan Royals as being difficult. Pandya feels confident that they can use this opportunity against them to bounce back and look forward to another match against Rajasthan Royals as an opportunity.
He adds that for them to reach the playoffs, they must demonstrate excellence across all aspects of their game and work incredibly hard in order to do so.
MI made one change to their squad by including Naman Dhir in place of Mohammad Nabi, while KKR have decided to field the same playing XI they used against MI in Kolkata last time out and added England left-arm pace all-rounder David Willey who will likely replace Reece Topley who currently has an injured right shoulder at Eden Gardens Kolkata where the toss took place at 10:25 pm local time.
