SRH vs RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore put on an outstanding all-round display to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs in their second match of the Indian Premier League season and win their second game by an innings. Though initially they showed poor shot selection in the early going, RCB were much improved after reaching 262 when batting later and bowlers also delivered some spectacular spells to ensure victory for their side. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis proved why they are among the world’s premier batsmen while bowlers also demonstrated why.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bat first. Although opener Abhishek Sharma fell early to Yash Dayal, he soon found his groove with the bat, hitting four consecutive sixes off Markande for 50 off 19 balls before being caught at wicket by Jacks who induce a poor stroke and caught him at his wicket. Once Jacks caught him out however, spinners came in to derail SRH run chase as first Yashish Chaudhary removed Travis Head before debutant Swapnil Singh struck twice off successive deliveries from successive deliveries by him taking out Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy from consecutive deliveries from Markande to finish off that over with two wickets taken down.

SRH continued their fightback until their score reached 171. Cameron Green provided some hope with two fives and sixes off 37 balls, but Karn Sharma delivered an unbelievable delivery that sent Cameron Green back into the pavilion – effectively ending any chance for comeback.

RCB bowled well in their opening three overs but their top order were soon undone by pressure from Rahul Tripathi’s early dismissal and Virat Kohli’s replacement of him, Virat soon found his rhythm as he hit three fours and sixes in quick succession for an innings-best total of 161. Together they added 67 runs for the third wicket which put RCB past 160.

SRH kept their hopes alive with their bat, only to be eventually vanquished by bowlers. Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad stood firm but finally succumbed under pressure from bowlers led by Yashish Chaudhary who bowled to take Samad’s wicket on the first ball of the last over; leg spinner then made quick work of any hope of an unlikely comeback by striking with another outstanding delivery from this leg spinner.
