Sri Lanka make history at R. Premadasa by defeating India in bilateral T20I series for the first time in 27 years. Charith Asalanka traps Shivam Dube LBW to force play into its final over and give Sri Lanka victory.
Riyan Parag delivers a tight over, and Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma both block well – however, the former gets off to an exciting start by scoring his maiden boundary through midwicket. In this article, we will discuss the main points of India National Cricket Team vs Sri Lanka National Cricket Team Match Scorecard.
IND vs SL – 1st ODI
At R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka produced an epic comeback, coming back from 101/6 to post an imposing total of 249 for 8 wickets lost. Dunith Wellalage scored unbeaten 87 off 76 balls while Pathum Nissanka made 50 to give their hosts an excellent start; however, a series of Indian spinners bowled perfectly to keep Sri Lanka from making further advances towards their target.
India got off to an explosive start, with Rohit Sharma scoring the opening fifty of the match and the visitors reaching 76/0 after one powerplay over. But Sri Lankan spinners began taking wickets regularly as Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar delivered impressive spells that kept runs under control.
Kusal Mendis’ four off Shivam Dube gave Sri Lanka its inaugural boundary. Sadeera Samarawickrama then followed suit and drove hard towards mid on for two boundaries to seal victory!
Mohammed Siraj delivers the knockout punch in his fourth over, sending up an accurate pitch right up against Udeshika Prabodani’s leg stump line and her attempt to sweep misses completely despite her best efforts to do so. She requests a review but the umpire stands firm with his decision.
Wellalage hits a SIX! The Sri Lankan batsman opens his face of bat to unleash the ball over long-on for a huge six. Wellalage even celebrates with his trademark celebration as the home team pursue a big total score.
Shivam Dube replaces Siraj for the final over of their innings and bowls a short ball that hits Mendis on his arm, prompting an appeal for leg before; however, no decision was given and Mendis must run quickly as their hosts remain vulnerable in this matchup.
IND vs SL – 2nd ODI
Sri Lanka appeared poised for an unexpected comeback following a thrilling tie in game one of their series against India, as evidenced by some impressive batting performances in game two. Even after losing Pathum Nissanka early, Avishka Fernando’s composed 96 and Kusal Mendis’ well-made 59 helped Sri Lanka reach 248/7 at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo despite Riyan Parag’s 3-for 54 performance; India found itself struggling to keep up.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have provided India with an impressive foundation, so now it will be interesting to see how their tweakers manage in these challenging conditions.
Charith Asalanka bowled a short and full delivery at Kuldeep Yadav’s off stump that he managed to avoid. Subsequently, Asalanka delivered another fuller ball that Kuldeep deflected away by staying back. Soon after that delivery was bowled, Asalanka pitched one towards leg that Kuldeep flicked back onto his pads before flying over midwicket for one run.
39.1: Charith Asalanka to Axar Patel, Out! Trapped In Front!
Axar Patel was instrumental in India’s comeback. His partnership with Washington Sundar served to arrest wickets falling and maintain momentum towards an Indian win, keeping the fielding side guessing throughout their innings. Eventually however both batsmen fell within minutes with both being given out LBW (review upheld), Siraj departs after unsuccessfully attempting to hook it over cover; Ball Tracking shows it hit him before middle stump – leaving India even in their match against Pakistan tied at one all. With only two overs remaining they look set to keep dominance going!
IND vs SL – 3rd ODI
India and Sri Lanka produced one of the most exciting matches of the series with their third one-day international, featuring spectacular catches to huge sixes that kept fans on edge throughout. Sri Lanka excelled with their batting and bowling performances – their spinners making use of favorable conditions at R Premadasa Stadium to claim five wickets during this match!
India lost early wickets and struggled to recover in their chase of 319 runs, as Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel failed to contribute consistently with their lower-order batsmen unable to be dismissed effectively from Rishabh Pant’s leadership and Axar Patel respectively. India ultimately fell short due to inability to successfully dismiss their lower order batsmen who proved too hard a target for India to dismiss early enough during the match.
Sri Lanka celebrated a historic win against India at home, their first series win against them for 27 years. Meanwhile, India must find ways to improve performance and find their feet again.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got off to a good start but eventually Shubman Gill was dismissed by Asitha Fernando in the fifth over. Substitute Riyan Parag quickly followed suit before Jeffrey Vandersay sent him back into his pavilion. Maheesh Theekshana picked up another wicket by dismissing Sadeera Samarawickrama from the middle.
At halfway point, Sri Lanka were in complete control, reaching an enormous total in just over 50 overs thanks to Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis who put on brilliant batting displays for their side. Kuldeep Yadav managed to end Mendis’s fantastic innings when he caught him off the last ball of an over, with Shubman Gill taking an outstanding catch at long-on. Sri Lanka then finished their 48 over innings on 235/6; their second highest total in ODIs. On Wednesday, India would look to protect their lead in the final ODI against Sri Lanka despite being underdogs in this encounter; but, should Sri Lanka overcome India, they could turn things around in this encounter and force a tie-breaker game! India are hoping to avoid an easy win and come out strong against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
IND vs SL – 4th ODI
The match proved to be a nail-biter as both teams displayed brilliant cricket. Sri Lanka were leading the ODI series after winning all three games and seemed certain to claim victory again in game four, until India unleashed some amazing bowling from Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya who all took wickets apiece while their fielders inflicted two run outs and won!
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had made an aggressive start, both hitting three fours and one six each, but fell short of reaching a big total before Asitha Fernando dismissed them both in the fifth over.
After losing both openers, India suffered a disastrous collapse, losing five wickets within 11 overs – Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer were casualties of this misfortune.
Axar Patel was outmuscled for an lbw dismissal to Malinda Pushpakumara while Shreyas Iyer was controversially caught at long-on by Pathum Nissanka after appearing to reach for the ball and reach for it with his hand, however umpires decided in favour of Shreyas Iyer and gave a no-ball ruling against Pathum Nissanka despite clear indications from Pathum Nissanka’s hand having reached for it with its palm exposed but instead granted him no dismissal by umpires rulings who then gave an outfielder no chance against those batsmen before giving out the ball again!
Kuldeep Yadav soon got his revenge by dismissing one of Sri Lanka’s batsmen – Janith Liyanage for an opening-ball duck and dismissing Sadeera Samarawickrama to reduce Sri Lankan’s to 196/5 in 43 overs.
Avishka Fernando then unleashed an explosive six to take Sri Lanka’s score to 248/7 after 50 overs, narrowly missing out on making century as Riyan Parag bowled him from flighted delivery and nearly ended Sri Lankan chances to win this match – they need just 249 runs more to do it.
