Indian batsmen had a slow start during the powerplay but quickly picked up steam as Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant made runs quickly and effortlessly. Hardik Pandya also played his part in helping India achieve an enormous total score.

This match featured an extremely slow pitch, yet both teams managed to exploit its slower nature to their fullest potential and create a thrilling batting showcase from start to finish.

The Indians posted an impressive score when they took advantage of conditions and powerplay opportunities to post an impressive total score, providing confidence to the team that even on an inferior pitch they can produce big numbers.

Afghanistan’s opening pair, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai, proved they weren’t in any mood to concede runs to India as they both scored quickly to help Afghanistan reach 85/0 within 10 overs.

However, India regained the upper hand in the 11th over. Ravindra Jadeja hit an immense six to deep square leg off Ravi Ashwin’s third delivery and Shivam Dube attacked Ashwin’s bowler before getting him out for one himself in similar fashion.

This moment in the match was pivotal as it caused an immediate shift in momentum and reminded everyone just how dangerous Afghanistan can be in this format if they utilize world-class spinner Rashid Khan effectively – they could give any top team a run for their money!

Fazalhaq Farooqi began Afghanistan’s over with an excellent performance, denying Rohit Sharma an easy single on his opening ball and then restricting the batters over three deliveries.

But in the fourth over, Rahmanullah Gurbaz made sure he wouldn’t let anyone deny him of a boundary; smashing a six off delivery four to claim back his lead and restore order.

Afghanistan – 141 for 6

Afghanistan have started their innings strongly under Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai’s guidance, opening up an encouraging hope in their pursuit of India’s 182-run first innings total. Their partnership of 59 runs has established itself early and they look set to remain their core for much of this innings.

Afghanistan have struggled with their bowling but their batsmen have performed admirably under pressure. Rashid Khan, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Mukesh Kumar have not produced any breakthroughs for the visitors.

Hardik Pandya bowled India’s second over and Nabi took immediate advantage, hitting four leg byes before driving across midwicket for six off the fourth delivery by Nabi. India managed just one single run off their last three balls despite all four byes and sixes that came their way.

Afghanistan bowler Naveen-ul-Haq started his third over with several dots before giving away a single. Nabi then hit four straight deliveries for six – only for Gulbadin to catch it as Rahmanullah Gurbaz took up position at his other end.

Rohit Sharma made a costly error at the beginning of the first over, missing an off-stump short ball and being hit on his backfoot. When trying to hit back with another short ball he miscued it and the umpire called for review – however the ball did not land where expected and thus the original decision stood firm.

Yashasvi Jaiswal will replace Tilak Varma at the crease as India try to establish themselves quickly during their chase of 229 runs for victory. Arshdeep Singh will lead their bowling attack.

While this match demonstrated the wide gap in experience between sides, it also demonstrated Afghanistan’s promising rise as an international force that will give even the greatest teams a run for their money in future tournaments. With just 10 overs remaining to complete this match both batsmen are determined to play their best cricket and achieve victory for their side in this matchup!

India win by 6 wickets

India defeated Afghanistan by six wickets to advance to the semi-final of the 2024 World Cup and reach round 5. Rohit Sharma led India to an impressive total under Rohit’s brilliant captaincy; top order members Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli formed effective partnerships before their bowlers took charge to restrict Afghanistan to an insignificant total on Ahmedabad’s flat pitch; Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel also contributed with one wicket each.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz quickly set his mark by flicking Arshdeep Singh for four through square leg. But left-arm spinner Washington Sundar quickly responded, trapping Gurbaz in front of his stumps with his second ball – before joining Mohammad Nabi to form a 56-run partnership that only required 22 balls! Unfortunately Nabi was dismissed by Washington Sundar in the 17th over.

Sundar bowled his final over, and his batsmen made no mistakes with it. Rohit Sharma reached out for a drive but miscued it off the inside edge towards midwicket for four boundaries in an over. It was India’s third boundary of that over.

Rohit Sharma was dropped by Rashid Khan off a short delivery in the next over, leading his batsmen to collapse to 86/6 by 19th over. But Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni managed to add 109 runs for seventh wicket to help India achieve their target in 49 overs.

India were cautious in the final over, as the ball didn’t turn as they desired; nevertheless, they managed to cross over with several dot balls for victory and advance into the semi-finals where they will play Pakistan who defeated Bangladesh by 66 runs earlier that day. India and Pakistan are currently level on points, having won equal numbers of wins and losses so far. However, India boasts a better goal difference; winning five out of their six matches to date compared with four wins for Pakistan at this stage of play-offs. India last faced Pakistan in a World Cup game back in 2010 and won by 105 runs.
