These matches highlight the competitive nature of the encounters between PBKS and CSK in the IPL 2024 season.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada has proven himself one of the premier bowlers in Indian Premier League cricket, taking 23 wickets across 13 games for Punjab Kings last season and will again this season. Additionally, he can bat well and bowl both spin and fast bowling to create fear among opposition batsmen in seam-friendly Mohali and Dharamsala conditions.

Chennai were in decent position at the halfway point in their run chase despite their average bowling line-up; however, things quickly unravelled during their middle overs when they lost two wickets; Rahul Chahar caught Moeen Ali at midwicket for one major blow and another wicket fell shortly afterwards when Bairstow and Rossouw put on 50 runs together to keep Chennai within reach.

South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has had an outstanding year both in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and for his nation. A highly promising young player, he shows immense promise as an international bowler of the future. Already having made appearances for South Africa T20 matches and selected for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup towards year’s end; as well as playing several matches for Kent County Cricket Club before signing with Jozi Stars of Mzansi Super League; Ngidi shows plenty of promise as an international bowler of note!

Domestically, Rabada has distinguished himself for Gauteng in both the CSA Provincial One-Day Competition and Sunfoil Series tournaments. Additionally, he represented South Africa Under-19 team at ICC Under-19 World Cup 2015 tournament and helped them capture victory.

Recently for the Stars, he took 2 for 21 in four overs and was named man of the match despite their loss against Delhi Capitals. This marks two consecutive awards given out for him as top bowler for both his club and country; no doubt the lanky bowler will aim to repeat it next week when taking on his former defending champions again!

Harpreet Brar

Harpreet Brar was instrumental to Punjab’s bowling effort on Friday evening. Utilizing the slow surface effectively, Harpreet took four wickets in eight overs without conceding a boundary or run-chase boundary; also helping Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw lead Punjab to victory.

Punjab were in danger early in their run chase after losing two early wickets, but thanks to Prabhsimran and Shashank Singh’s brilliant partnership, they eventually managed to recover and find some momentum before losing them both again and ultimately falling away completely.

Kagiso Rabada’s ability to capture wickets early has seen him amass 11 scalps this season at an economy rate of 8.92. His exploiting short pitches and deceptive slower balls is key in restricting Chennai batters.

Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar’s four wicket performance in eight overs was instrumental in keeping Chennai to 162-7, without giving away a single boundary during their spell and keeping their run chase under control.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (32) and Ravindra Jadeja (28) provided CSK with an early boost, yet were unable to convert their starts into big scores. Sam Curran and Arshdeep Singh then exploited any tailenders left standing to reduce CSK’s innings to only 167 for nine.

Leg-spinner Brar has proven himself an invaluable weapon for Punjab this season. Boasting both line and length in his delivery – crucial on a slow Dharamsala pitch – as well as clever wrist-work, his leg break proved decisive against CSK: Rahane was bowled off his first delivery before Dube caught leg before wicket in quick succession; finally Dhoni was brought down with an excellent yorker at one stage during playback.

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav, Delhi’s left-arm wrist spinner, has been outstanding this season. He has taken many wickets while also boasting an economical economy rate and outstanding pace and control – one of his many assets to Delhi’s bowling unit.

He currently stands as the fourth highest wicket taker in the tournament with an excellent average. A key weapon for Delhi, he was instrumental in their victory against Rajasthan Royals this week and boasts an excellent track record against CSK as well. We can expect him to continue his good form.

Last time out against Mumbai Indians, he scored an important two out of 21 to help Delhi win. Unfortunately, due to a niggle he missed Chennai Super Kings but hopes to be back for their match against Hyderabad on February 2.

Delhi suffered two early wickets during their run-chase and faced difficulties, but managed to fight back strongly thanks to Axar Patel and Devon Conway who put together an outstanding partnership of 113 runs that gave them hope of winning the match. Unfortunately, they were unable to accomplish their task and fell short by 10 runs. Their team will surely be dismayed that they weren’t able to cross over and will need to work harder with the ball in future matches as well. After their victory against Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians will feel buoyed by the result but will need to improve in terms of both batting and fielding. With their impressive start to the season behind them and another victory against Bangalore coming up soon after that matchup is likely.

Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel played a pivotal role in helping Punjab Kings defeat Chennai Super Kings at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, taking three wickets en route to becoming joint most successful bowler for Punjab Kings. Prabhsimran Singh and Rilee Rossouw provided an ominous start, while CSK’s limited fast bowlers allowed Punjab Kings to gain control.

CSK faced an early setback when Tushar Deshpande was bowled by Brar for six runs in the first over. They responded well though with Rossouw making an outstanding half century and Prabhsimran hitting an aggressive century of runs to end powerplay with 71/3 and appear poised for a big total total score.

Simarjeet Singh conceded 11 runs to Vijay Shankar in his second over, including one boundary. Rahul Chahar then ran amok, dismissing Rossouw and Prabhsimran from PBKS before going on to dismiss two more wickets to reduce them to 72/6 by the 10th over.

Jadeja and Simarjeet continued their ruthless run-chase against PBKS’ middle order by picking up wickets regularly – effectively keeping any possible comeback by the hosts at bay.

Harshal Patel had an inauspicious start to his IPL career and found himself on the fringes of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bench over most of the past couple of seasons. But after showing plenty of promise domestically and eventually being bought by Delhi in 2018, Harshal proved himself and was eventually acquired back by RCB ahead of their 2021 auction bid.

In his first match of the 2024 IPL season, he demonstrated his class by bowling beautifully and economically at an economy rate of over 12. He took two wickets – Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Reddy – that kept RCB within reach of finishing in the top four spots.
