South Africa: Aiden Markram (c), Reeza Hendricks (wk), Rassie van der Dussen (wk), Temba Bavuma (wk), David Miller (wk), Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Keshav Maharaj (wk), Kagiso Rabada (wk), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (wk)

South Africa will have an opportunity to book their spot in the T20 World Cup Super 8 stage when they face Bangladesh at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium. South Africa are currently leading their group, having collected three wins out of three wins so far, while Bangladesh must avoid an embarrassing upset against their defending champs.

The match will start at 5:05 local time (03:30 GMT). This will be their inaugural T20 encounter, with Sri Lanka looking to build on their win against Bangladesh while Bangladesh hoping to avoid consecutive losses in this tournament.

Even with their top three batsmen struggling, South Africa have still achieved an impressive average of 6.77 across their innings at this tournament; Quinton de Kock leading with 9.67 while Hendricks and Markram have both scored well despite not reaching 50 yet in nine appearances.

But they were dealt a hard blow in this game as two batsmen have fallen for only 11 runs each; with left-arm spinner Shoriful Islam taking out Hendricks and young off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz catching Rassie van der Dussen to maintain pressure.

Once again, Bangladesh were brought down when Gerald Coetzee removed Mushfiqur Rahim for eight (17) and Kagiso Rabada pinged Litton Das LBW for 22 (44). That really put a stopper to their innings as Bangladesh struggled to maintain a decent run rate.

Mahmudullah from one end kept fighting back and eventually reached his first century of the competition, racing past 73 off 48 balls with five fours to bring up their total to 380 before Coetzee struck again to remove Nasum Ahmed for just 12 and leave them struggling towards their target as the game entered its final overs. When QDK attempted a slog shot that completely missed, sending the ball smashing into his stumps; South Africa suffered its fourth wicket yet still managed to reach their goal within six balls thanks to Heinrich Klaasen and Keshav Maharaj though!

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan (c), Litton Das (wk), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mustafizur Rahman (wk), Shakib Al Hasan (wk), Najmul Hossain Shanto (wk)

South Africa boast a talented squad as they aim to qualify for the Super Eight stage of ICC T20 World Cup 2024, but will be without stand-in captain Temba Bavuma due to a quadricep injury; that could prove costly as South Africa have lost two out of their first three matches so far.

The Proteas have had great success against Bangladesh so far in this tournament, winning nine out of their 13 matches against them. But when the teams met again during a group match last time around, Bangladesh came away victorious by an emphatic 21-run scoreline – so hosts South Africa will look to right that wrong when they face each other again in a match held at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on this date.

Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock will be South Africa’s key figures as they try to get off to a fast start against Bangladesh, although left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam’s castled Hendricks and young offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s trapping of Rassie van der Dussen have managed to curb any early momentum for South Africa.

Miller and Heinrich Klaasen open with some singles before both batsmen handle a fuller ball as the batsmen play within themselves on this difficult batting surface.

Rishad Hossain entered the attack and initially had some misses and plays before finally hitting one in the slot, which Klaasen hit towards midwicket for an excellent six. A much-needed boundary for South Africa.

Klaasen and Miller now sit at 30 runs each, looking to add even more runs to their total. But the pitch seems easier now compared to its performance earlier in the innings.

Shakib Al Hasan enters the attack, yet has yet to achieve success in this over. Unable to find an edge with his bat, Klaasen again sends Shakib back down after sending fours over long-on in his third over. A dismal over for Bangladesh.

Scorecard

South Africa are still enjoying the high of their shock 229-run win against England in their Cricket World Cup opening match, but in order to secure a spot in the Super Eights they will need to work even harder than before. Their Group D campaign continues against Bangladesh at Wankhede Stadium where this match could prove pivotal.

The Proteas will look to replicate their impressive batting display from their opening match and secure three wins out of three in this tournament, and they appear well-positioned after their impressive 94-run chase against the Dutch. Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock made half centuries before Quinton de Kock was caught off Shakib Al Hasan at high full toss off Shakib Al Hasan’s full toss off an excellent full toss from Shakib Al Hasan for 56.

Bangladesh was reduced to 12-4 after their top four all fell quickly and easily, needing a big partnership from Mahmudullah’s bat to revive the match and help his side reach a respectable 212 total. Mahmudullah delivered with a magnificent innings, scoring an outstanding 78 not out in helping Bangladesh recover.

Bangladeshi bowlers were up to the challenge on this occasion; left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam delivered with an inswinger which took out Reeza Hendricks while Mehidy Hasan Miraz took Rassie van der Dussen wicket to bring pressure back on before Temba Bavuma fell lbw to Mustafizur Rahman and put an end to any chance of collapse by their hosts.

De Kock and Klaasen are doing everything they can to stave off another collapse, and with just a few more big hits from them South Africa should reach its target without any trouble. South Africa currently needs nine runs from seven balls; thanks to De Kock and Klaasen’s brilliant cricket they look set to achieve it without difficulty.

Maharaj delivers his final over with a high full toss that Markram takes a brilliant catch from long on for six from two overs. BAN need six from two overs to win.

QDK goes for a slog sweep but misses and the ball crashes into his stumps resulting in an out!
